The ultra-thin Calibre 600P movement, created in the workshops of the Piaget Manufacture, was steadfastly recognized as a great achievement in an increasingly competitive world of horology. Not only openworked but also gem-set, this extraordinary mechanism was a response to the company’s ambition to take the timekeeping and jewelry art to the totally new frontiers. Introduced for the first time in 2005, this world’s thinnest tourbillon movement was highly appreciated by watch enthusiasts and experts.

The new ultra-thin jewel-set Calibre 838P movement, unveiled in 2010, is an eloquent statement of Piaget’s outstanding mastery within the elite field of truly exclusive luxury watchmaking. This mechanism beats to the rhythm of 21,600 vibrations per hour and boasts a 62-hour power reserve. The Calibre 838P movement is enclosed in a new breathtaking Altiplano Gem-set Skeleton watch. It indicates hours and minutes. Additional functions include small seconds displayed at 10 o’clock.

The task of gem-setting an ultra-thin skeletonized movement is labor-intensive, since it demands recreating its basic structure. Every component, a plate or a bridge, has to be sufficiently thick and rigid enough to enable the mounting of precious stones. At the same time the movement must be incredibly slender, which is really a feat of technical virtuosity. It became possible due to the joint efforts of the brand’s esteemed professionals, including the gem-setter, watchmaker and movement developer.

The resulting product is just amazing. The 3.10 mm thick movement is encrusted with 174 full-cut diamonds with the total weight of 0.48 carats. The caliber 838P finish has been created in the spirit of respect for Piaget’s best traditions - sunburst guilloche bridges, bevelling, circular graining, hand-drawn mainplate and bridges, blued screws, as well as circular satin-brushed wheels.

The caliber is beating inside a 40 mm case rendered in 18-carat white gold. The heart of the watch harmonizes perfectly with the flange enhanced by a subtle interplay of 144 diamonds, with the total weight of 0.91 carats. The Altiplano gem-set skeleton watch features a bezel with a sparkling mosaic of 72 diamonds. The overall weight of these precious stones is 1.01 carats.

The novel Piaget Altiplano Gem-set Skeleton watch is presented on a black alligator leather strap, finished with an 18-carat white gold pin buckle. It is offered solely and exclusively at the brand’s boutiques.
